 OUR MISSION:

The Granite Bay Youth Lacrosse Club is an area non-profit sports club  dedicated to providing positive athletic opportunities for young men and women in and around Granite Bay.  Our focus is on developing the character, leadership, teamwork, and athletic skills and conditioning for area youth through discipline, positive coaching techniques and lacrosse training and competition.  Players from the Junior Program are being trained to feed into the Granite Bay High School Lacrosse CIF Program and other area High School clubs and programs.

Thus, we endeavor to support the growth of the sport throughout the Sacramento region, including improving the diversity of the players engaging in the sport and supporting the start of programs in economically disadvantaged areas.

 ABOUT THE YOUTH PROGRAM
Our club currently fields teams for youth in the 3rd through 8th grades.  There are currently Five teams; U 15 U 13, U 11 and U 9  Boys Teams & Girls U 15 & 13. We are a member of the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association and play teams in the Sacramento region as well as the Bay Area.  Granite Bay Lacrosse coaches operate on the principle that, regardless of ability, every willing player is able to play the game.  In the younger teams especially, development and fairness take precedent over winning.
 We have developed a great program for the coming year, with a strong schedule of games with local and Northern California teams. It is an exciting time in the development of our program.
Thanks for your interest;

U 15 Team Philosophy;

The U 15 team is a competitive team.  The team philosophy is to develop highly skilled, highly competitive players that compete for the league title.   This team competes against teams comprised of both 8th & 9th graders.  For reasons of physical safety, we have to maintain a certain physical and mental maturity at this level.

In selecting players for this team, we will be looking at the following qualities:
  • Attitude: We are looking for a positive attitude, the desire to play according to game rules at a high level, and compete both physically and mentally as a good sportsman or woman.  (see behavior expectations waiver form link on registration page for reference.)
  • Commitment:  We are looking for players that are committed to learning the game, and practice their skills and maintain a high level of physical conditioning, on their own.  These are the players that come to practice on time and ready to go.
  • Athletic Ability:  Speed, conditioning and strength are factors in determining player selction.
  • Skill development: We are looking for players that can catch, throw and pick up the ball consistently with both hands.
  • Field Play: We are looking for players that maintain good positioning on the field, both defensively and offensively.  Has team members they execute their assignments and roles consistently.  Players should be attentive and responsive to coaches and direction.
This team will carry a maximum of 24 players and not all players will be given equal playing time.
  • Expect Attach and Defense starters to receive the majority of the playing time.
  • 1st and 2nd Line Midfielders will receive the majority of the playing time.
Playing time will be determined by performance on the field and effort in practice.

U 15 B Team Philosophy;
The U 15 B team is a developmental team that will place more emphasis on developing players than competition.  This team is made up of those player that were not chosen for the U 15 A and U13 teams.  It is a team where newer player and younger player have the opportunity to play and develop their skills.  We will certainly try to win games, we are not going to make winning the main priority.  While we cannot guarantee precisely equal playing time, we will make a concerted effort to give every player significant playing time each game.  However, game situations may dictate substitution patterns preventing some players participating with significant minutes during the game.

For example, a player may be slated to go in on defense, but we get a penalty requiring us to substitute in our penalty killing team.  It can take several minutes before we get another opportunity make a substitution.

We expect the same qualities from these players as indicated in the U 15 team Philosophy.  The U 15 selection process will be more lenient as these players are developing their skills and knowledge of Lacrosse.

U 13 Team Philosophy;

The U 13 team is a developmental team that will place more emphasis on developing players than competition.

The U 13 selection process will be more lenient as these players are developing their skills and knowledge of Lacrosse.

U 11 Team Philosophy:

The U 11 team is a developmental team that will place more emphasis on developing players than competition.  We will certainly try to win games, we are not going to make winning the main priority.  Equal playing time is the goal of this team.  However, game situations may dictate substitution patterns preventing some players participating with significant minutes during the game.

For example, a player may be slated to go in on defense, but we get a penalty requiring us to substitute in our penalty killing team.  It can take several minutes before we get another opportunity make a substitution.

We expect the same qualities from these players as indicated in the Junior-8 Team Philosophy.  “Pups” Team selection process will be more lenient as these players are developing their skills and knowledge of Lacrosse.

U 9 (PEE Wee) Team Philosohy

The Pee Wees Team will be strictly developmental, and  weighted heavily towards learning age appropriate conditioning and basic game knowledge.   Scrimmages and games will be scheduled with other area Pee Wee Teams as schedules permit.

Girls U 15 & U 13Team Philosophy;

This Girls team is a developmental team that will focus on developing player skill, game tactics, sportmanship, and knowledge of the game.

While more experienced player may receive more playing time in competitive situations, we will strive to give all players a chance to play in game situations.

We expect the following from our players:
  • Focus and committment to developing skills
  • Attendance at practices, unless excused
  • Positive attitude both on & off the field
  • Teamwork and good sportmanship at all times
